Nano Poblano 2016 – Day 11: Fiction Friday

This painting was painted by my Great Grandmother McIntier.

She knew that there was storm in the forecast for the day, but she had really believed that she could get out for her walk and get back home before it hit.

Now she realized that she probably should have turned back a lot sooner than she did as the early evening began to darken far too quickly.

A sudden cold gust of wind made her shiver and she wished that she had thought to bring a jacket with her.

She quickened her pace a bit, carefully watching the dirt path before her for any tree roots that might catch her feet. She wished she had a flashlight. Who knew it could get so dark so early.

The wind was steady now and she knew that the rain would start to fall soon.

She broke through the treeline and saw the fence in desperate need of mending that marked the edge of her property. As she reached it the sky lit up ahead of her and the rain began to fall.
